Globalization Contextual Essay
Globalization is the process of integrating internationally. Such as integration of countries via treaties etc… This makes countries richer by being able to receive goods from other countries in exchange of their goods. Also globalization could be seen as the migration of groups of people into another country that they are not citizens of. This has existed for a long time as us humans have always tried to gain something or receive stuff for our own products. Many early farmers would trade their crops in order to receive other crops to feed their children and wife.
Technological innovations of the 21st century impact the debate of globalization because technology is the biggest thing occurring at this very moment everywhere in the world. Technology makes everything easier. For example if a country wanted to make a treaty with another country it would take much more to hear a response or anything from the other country because they would have to wait for a letter from an official, but now it is as easy as calling them, sending emails, and even traveling. It took longer to travel earlier in life, but now there are airplanes which can get you to a location quickly. Vehicles also help the transportation of goods as it will be harder for vegetables or fruits to go bad as the length of transportation will be shorter and the goods will be refrigerated while they are being transported.
Globalization impacts the problems that surround my chosen issue because the most violent cartel in Mexico called Los Zetas use gangs outside of their region of control to win territory. This Mexican cartel has been known to use a Los Angeles gang that was formed in Salvador to fight for them in Mexico. The gang is called MS-13. This is cartel globalization because they are communicating with people outside of their control to help them out. This can be showed if the United States asked for military help which they have. The main reason for why this cartel chose to reach out to MS-13 was because of how cheap they are. This can be seen as how many big companies reach out to poor countries to give poor people jobs that at the long run don’t help them out in any way. We can say for short that the MS-13 gang members are something like sweatshop workers for a company called Los Zetas who traffic illegal drugs. This helps out Los Zetas save money while they gain land at the same time.
Globalization could be changed to solve my issue by having a many countries form a group that would specialize just on this. Not on many types of illegal activity. If a secret agency between Mexico, U.S., and other countries involved in this drug war could be formed it would be a huge change and it would lead them to capturing cartel leaders just by putting the pieces together because one crime leads to another. This would make the government a step ahead of their enemies. Also it would help them clog the routes that are used to distribute the drugs.
